Gpixel is a fabless semiconductor company that designs and supplies CMOS image sensors based in Changchun, Jilin, China. Its listed legal name is Gpixel Changchun Microelectronics Inc. and was founded in 2012 by Wang Xinyang.[1] The company develops off-the-shelf and customized image sensors for industrial imaging, scientific imaging, professional photography and video, and medical imaging applications.[2]
Gpixel listed its H shares on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in April 2026 under the stock code 3277.[3] Its initial public offering raised about HK$2.6 billion, according to contemporary financial press reports.[4][5]
History
Gpixel was established in Changchun in September 2012 by Wang Xinyang, UP Optotech and Luster.[1] Wang had previously worked at CMOSIS NV in Belgium as an image sensor specialist and held research posts at the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics, part of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.[6][7][8]
The company expanded outside mainland China by establishing a Japanese subsidiary in 2016 and a Belgian subsidiary in 2018.[1] In 2022, it was converted into a joint stock limited liability company under Chinese law.[1]
In April 2026, Gpixel conducted a Hong Kong initial public offering of 65,294,200 H shares at HK$39.88 per share, with trading beginning on 17 April 2026.[3] Financial media reported that the company’s shares rose sharply after the listing, making Wang a billionaire on paper.[9]
Business and products
Gpixel's revenue has historically been concentrated in industrial and scientific imaging.[8][10] In 2025, industrial imaging accounted for RMB 639.0 million, or 74.6% of revenue, while scientific imaging accounted for RMB 204.3 million, or 23.9%. Professional photography and video and medical imaging were smaller contributors in that year.[11] Citing Frost & Sullivan data, ijiwei reported that by 2024 revenue, Gpixel ranked third globally in both industrial-imaging and scientific-imaging CMOS image sensors.[12]
Partnerships
In April 2026, Leica Camera AG and Gpixel announced a strategic partnership to develop a custom next-generation image sensor for future Leica cameras.[13][14] The companies described the project as a co-development effort rather than the use of an existing off-the-shelf Gpixel sensor.[14]
