Edara Johnson, professionally known as Baby G and Edara, is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, and former professional dancer. She is the lead vocalist and co-founder of the Brooklyn-based rock and hip hop band Shinobi Ninja.
Career
Professional dance
Before beginning her recording career, Johnson worked professionally as a dancer. According to BK Reader, she performed with artists including Rihanna, Jason Derulo and Cassie before transitioning into music.[1]
Shinobi Ninja
Johnson co-founded Shinobi Ninja in Brooklyn in 2008 alongside Doobie Duke Sims and the band's original members.[2]
The band combines elements of hip hop, punk rock, heavy metal, funk and electronic music. Shinobi Ninja has toured throughout the United States and has performed at festivals including Warped Tour, SXSW, Summerfest and Afropunk.[3]
In 2015, EBONY profiled Shinobi Ninja, describing Johnson as the band's lead vocalist and noting her previous career as a professional dancer before joining the band.[4]
Solo career
Johnson has released solo music under the stage name Edara.
She performed on the main stage at the Original LGBT Expo at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City in 2016 and again in 2017.[5]
