Daniel Robin Helterhoff (born February 14, 2003 in Cologne, Germany) is a German 6 ft 10 in (2.08m) basketball player who competes in NCAA Division I men’s basketball. He plays for the Rider Broncs of Rider University in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Helterhoff primarily plays the forward position.

Early life and education

Helterhoff was born on February 14, 2003 in Cologne, Germany. He attended the Urspringschule in Schelklingen, a well-known German basketball boarding school. During his high-school career, he averaged approximately 20.0 points and 14.3 rebounds per game in the NBBL, establishing himself as a notable frontcourt prospect.

He also represented Germany at the U18 national team level, where he finished third place at the FIBA European Challenger tournament.[1][2]

Playing career

Early development

Urspringschule (Germany)

  • Helterhoff developed his foundational skills at the Urspringschule basketball program, which has produced several professional and collegiate players like the NBA player Yanic Konan Niederhäuser. His performances there attracted interest from American college programs.[3]

Bayern München Basketball

  • He spent part of the 2021-22 season with FC Bayern Munich‘s youth and second team. He was involved mainly with FC Bayern Munich II in the German ProB and also in the U19/Youth Bundesliga during that period.[4]

College career

  1. Our lady of the Lake University (Texas)

Helterhoff began his collegiate basketball career at Our Lady of the Lake University, competing in the NAIA, during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 season.

In his sophomore season, he averaged 10.1 points and 5.8 rebounds per game.[5]

2. University of South Carolina Upstate

For the 2024-25 season, Helterhoff transferred to USC Upstate, making transition to NCAA Division I basketball.

He appeared in 29 games, including 14 starts, and averaged 4.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. His season-high performance came in the final regular-season game, scoring 15 points against High Point University. After the 2024-25 season, Helterhoff entered his Name to the NCAA transfer portal.[6]

3. Rider University

Ahead of the 2025-26 season, he transferred to Rider University, joining the Rider Broncs in the MAAC. Wearing jersey number 13, he continued competing at the Divison I level, contributing primarily as a rotational forward. [1]
