Chill Subs is an online database and submissions platform for writers. The website lists literary magazines, writing contests, publishers, residencies, and includes tools for tracking submissions.[1]
History
Chill Subs was founded in January 2022 by Karina Kupp, while she was living in Warsaw, Poland.[1] Benjamin Davis later joined the project as cofounder after contacting Kupp with ideas for additional tools and features.[1][2]
In May 2023, the online magazine and workshop project Write or Die merged with Chill Subs.[1] By February 2024, Publishers Weekly reported that the website had more than 18,000 registered writers and listings for more than 3,000 literary magazines, 1,300 writing contests, and 200 independent publishers.[1]
Features
Chill Subs allows users to search publication opportunities by genre, word count, fees, payments or prizes, response times, and other submission criteria.[1] It also includes a submission tracker, bookmarks, calendars, and editor-managed listings.[1] The Poetry Foundation lists Chill Subs among online resources for poets, as a source for newsletters about submissions and workshops for writers.[3]
Reception
Publishers Weekly described Chill Subs as a "grassroots alternative to Submittable" and reported on its user-funded model and focus on literary submissions.[1] Writer's Digest listed Chill Subs and Sub Club, a newsletter from the same team, among its 2025 "Best Job and Market Websites".[4]
