Atla Regio
Feature typeRegio
Diameter3200 km
EponymNorse giantess, mother of Heimdall.

Atla Regio is a region on the surface of Venus,[1] located at the equator[2][3] in the coordinates 9.2°N 200.1°E.[4], and measuring about 3,200 kilometres (2,000 miles) in diameter[1]

Its name derives after the Norse giantess, the mother of Heimdall, which was accepted by the International Astronomical Union in the year 1982.[1] On Venus, regions are named after giantesses and Titanesses[4]

Geology

Atla regio is a large rise that sits above a rising section of Venus's mantle. It has several giant shield volcanos which inludes Maat Mons, Ozza Mons, and Sapas Mons.[5][2] Atla Regio is modified by tectonism, which acts as major centers for converging rifts[3]
