ABW.BY (formerly Autobusiness and the newspaper Autobusiness-Weekly) is a Belarusian automotive news portal and online automotive classifieds platform. It is one of the oldest specialized automotive media outlets in Belarus. From 1993 to 2018, the project operated as a weekly newspaper before transitioning entirely to a digital format in 2018.
History
Newspaper period (1993–2018)
The publication was founded in Minsk in 1993 under the name Autobusiness-Weekly. The first issue was published on 11 February 1993.
Initially, the newspaper specialized in private classified advertisements for the sale and purchase of automobiles and spare parts, while also providing information on prices at automobile markets.
In addition to commercial information, the newspaper published editorial content, including vehicle reviews, legislative news, and maintenance and repair advice. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, it was one of the leading printed automotive publications in Belarus.[1]
In 1994, the magazine ABS, associated with the newspaper, was launched. It was initially published in black and white before later switching to full color and remained in publication until 2008.
In 2006, the website abw.by was launched. Originally functioning as the online version of the newspaper with a duplicate classified advertisements database, it later evolved into an independent automotive news portal.
Due to changes in media consumption and the digitalization of the market, publication of the printed newspaper ceased in 2018. The project subsequently focused exclusively on the development of the abw.by online portal.
Modern period (since 2018)
Following the discontinuation of its print edition, the project continued operating as both an online classified advertising platform and an automotive news outlet.
In 2019, abw.by underwent a rebranding and adopted the Autobusiness logo.[2]
In December 2021, Bonustorg LLC, the owner of abw.by, became a resident company of the Belarus High-Tech Park.[3]
In November 2023, the portal announced the suspension of its operations.[4]
On 17 January 2024, the portal resumed operations following a change of ownership and the relaunch of the project under a new management structure.[5]
In July 2024, the project was rebranded from Autobusiness to ABW.BY, introducing its current visual identity and orange branding.[6]
Activities
The portal's main areas of activity include:
- News and editorial content — daily publication of automotive industry news, updates to traffic regulations and legislation, original road tests of new and used vehicles, reports, expert articles, and special editorial projects.
- Classifieds — listings for passenger cars, commercial vehicles, motorcycles, special-purpose vehicles, spare parts, and automotive services.
- Services — AI-powered vehicle search, PRO subscription, VIN check service, vehicle modification catalogue, automotive company services, and other online tools.
The portal's materials are regularly cited by other Belarusian media outlets and news aggregators.
