Movement for Rights and Freedoms – A New Beginning (Bulgarian: Движение за права и свободи – Ново начало, romanized: Dvizhenie za prava i svobodi – Novo nachalo; DPS–NN), often known as DPS–Peevski, is a Bulgarian political electoral coalition.
The coalition claims to represent the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS), following a leadership dispute.[1] This claim is disputed by DPS–Dogan, another coalition which registered on the same day as DPS–Peevski.[2] The party was set up in response to the controversial removal of its leader, Delyan Peevski, being removed as chairman of the original DPS.[3]
DPS–Peevski registered electronically on the 2 September in order to try and be the first out of the two competing factions to register. This move was unprecedented, and the electoral commission decided to allow both electoral coalitions to run with the same abbreviation.[1][4]
Composition
The composition of DPS–Peevski is as follows, though the status of whether the official DPS party runs in DPS–Peevski or DPS–Dogan is yet to be determined by the Bulgarian Electoral Commission.[4][5][6] Despite the original DPS being listed as part of both electoral coalitions, the Commission decided on 4 September that both had to prove the original party was not part of either group,[7] something neither wing agreed to do by the 7 September deadline.[8][9] Because it was registered first, the Supreme Administrative Court of Bulgaria accepted the application filed by DPS–Peevski.[10][11]
