A costotransverse ligament is ligament of the costotransverse joint which attaches at (the posterior aspect of[1]) the neck of a rib, and at (the anterior aspect of[1]) the transverse process of[1][2] its corresponding[1] vertebra.[1][2] It extends posteriorly from the rib to the vertebra.[1]
It strengthens the costotransverse joint anteriorly.[2]
It is diminished or absent at the joints of ribs XI-XII.[1]
