The first post office in Centerville was established in March 1855.[3] Currently, Centerville has a post office with ZIP code 66014.[4] The Kansas City branch of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad runs through Centerville. The railroad supported local industries, a grain elevator and a passenger depot. The old Amoco Pumphouse building was converted to an event venue in 2007.

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Centerville has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.[5]

For every 100 females, there were 129.4 males.[7] For every 100 females ages 18 and older, there were 138.1 males.[7]
