The base is home to the 116th Air Control Squadron.[2] The 116th ACS is a deployable airspace command & control unit with radar and communications capabilities. They have been deployed temporarily to Operation Enduring Freedom in 2006, Qatar in 2011, and Southwest Asia in 2015.[2][3]
The camp was initially established as Camp Clatsop in 1927 as a summer training area for the Oregon National Guard. In 1959, it was renamed Camp Rilea, after Major general Thomas E. Rilea, the Adjutant General of Oregon.[4]
In 1940, the camp was federalized for World War II. It was returned to the state in 1947.[4]
