Ballast Head is a locality in the Australian state of South Australia located on the north coast of Kangaroo Island overlooking Nepean Bay about 118 kilometres (73 miles) south of the state capital of Adelaide and about 19 kilometres (12 miles) southeast of the municipal seat of Kingscote.[1][3]
Its boundaries were created in May 2002 for the “long established name” which is derived from a headland on its coastline.[1] The principal land use within the locality is agriculture.[8]
^For the 2011 census, the ‘State Suburb of Nepean Bay’ consisted of the localities of Ballast Head, Birchmore, D’estrees Bay, Haines, Kohinoor, MacGillivray, Muston, Nepean Bay, Seal Bay and Seddon.
