Aria Systems is an American software company that provides a cloud-based SaaS billing and monetization platform for enterprises.[1][2] It is based in San Francisco, California.
History
Aria Systems was founded in 2002 by Brendan O'Brien and Edward "Ed" Sullivan in Media, Pennsylvania, to provide a cloud-based billing platform for businesses with recurring revenue models, as an alternative to locally installed billing platforms.[3][4][5]
Aria received its first major institutional funding in 2007 with a $4 million Series A round led by Hummer Winblad Venture Partners.[6] As the adoption of its cloud billing platform grew, Aria expanded its operations. In 2011, Aria raised $20 million in an investment round led by InterWest with participation of Hummer-Winblad and Venrock.[7][8]
In 2012, Tom Dibble was appointed CEO.[9] The following year, Aria opened its first international office in London and raised a $40 million Series D round led by Bain Capital Ventures.[10][11]
In 2016, Aria raised an additional $50 million in Series E financing led by Rembrandt Venture Partners and Madison Bay Capital.[12] In the same year, Aria was listed on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500.[13]
In August 2021, Aria raised $90 million in a growth capital investment round led by Goldman Sachs Asset Management.[14]
Platform
Aria Systems provides a cloud-based billing automation platform to manage subscription and recurring billing for enterprises. It integrates with payment gateways and back‑office enterprise systems, such as CRM and ERP.[15][16]
In 2016, Aria launched "Aria for Connected Vehicles," to monetize automotive IoT services.[17][18] In 2024, Aria introduced an AI chatbot called Aria Billie.[19]
Partnerships
In September 2023, Aria entered a strategic partnership with Salesforce to develop an integrated cloud billing and CRM solution. The platform, described as a "concept-to-care" monetization system, is aimed at the communications, media, and technology sectors.[20][21][22]
Industry Presence
In December 2025, technology research firm Omdia named Aria one of four global “Leaders” in its Telecom Billing Market Radar - 2025, alongside Amdocs, Netcracker Technology and Huawei.[23] In the same month, the International Data Corporation (IDC) positioned Aria in the "Leaders" category of its "IDC MarketScape: Worldwide Enterprise-Focused Subscription and Usage Management Applications 2025–2026 Vendor Assessment."[24]
Aria Systems has participated in several TM Forum "Catalyst" projects, which are collaborative initiatives focused on industry standards. In 2022, Aria and its partners received the "Best New Catalyst in Show" award at the Digital Transformation World event for a project developing asynchronous Open APIs for event-based architectures. The project team included champions such as BT, Orange, and Verizon, along with participants Bit2win, EPAM Systems, Tech Mahindra, and Yupiik.[25][26] Aria subsequently received catalyst awards in 2023 (Outstanding Catalyst – Business Impact), 2024 (Best Moonshot Catalyst – AI Challenge), and 2025 (Best Moonshot Catalyst – Interactive Showcase).[27]
