Species[1]

Allocoprococcus is a genus of Gram-stain-positive, obligately anaerobic, non-spore-forming and non-motile bacteria in the family Lachnospiraceae. Cells are coccobacilli that occur in pairs or chains. Members of the genus are saccharolytic and produce fermentation products that include acetate, butyrate and propionate.[2]

The genus was established in 2026 during a genome-based reorganization of Coprococcus. The species formerly known as Coprococcus comes was placed in the new genus as Allocoprococcus comes because it was phylogenetically distinct from the core Coprococcus group containing the type species, Coprococcus eutactus. Allocoprococcus similis was described at the same time.[2] Both species were isolated from human feces.[2] The type species is A. comes, and the genus contains two species with validly published names.[1]

The name Allocoprococcus combines the Ancient Greek word allos, meaning "other", with the bacterial genus name Coprococcus, and means "another Coprococcus".[2][1]
