At the time of the 2006 National Census, Ajin's population was 3,343 in 766 households, when it was a village in Pirsalman Rural District of the Central District.[6] The following census in 2011 counted 3,194 people in 879 households,[7] by which time the rural district had been separated from the district in the formation of Pirsalman District.[4] The 2016 census measured the population as 2,738 people in 822 households,[2] when the village had been elevated to the status of a city.[8]
