Special period of exile in Mahabharata
Agyaata Vaasa (Sanskrit: अज्ञात वास) was the last and special period of one year during the thirteen years exile period of the Pandavas from their kingdom mentioned in the text Mahabharata. After being defeated in the Dyoot game (gambling) organised at the court of Kuru King Dhritarashtra in Hastinapur, the Pandavas lost their kingdom Indraprastha and were sentenced to spend twelve years in the forest and the last thirteenth year in the Agyaata Vaasa.[1][2][3][4]
Etymology
The literal meaning of Agyaata Vaasa is living in an unknown place without being known by anyone.[5]
Description
The story of the Agyaata Vaasa of Pandavas is described in the fourth book known as Virata Parva of the text Mahabharata.[6]
