The 2016–17 Ranji Trophy is the 83rd season of the Ranji Trophy , the first-class cricket tournament in India. It is being contested by 28 teams divided into three groups. Groups A and B comprise nine teams and Group C comprises ten teams.[ 1] Hyderabad and Haryana qualified for the knockout stage of the tournament.[ 2] [ 3]

Smog pollution prevented any play from taking place.[ 14]
The BCCI originally rescheduled the match to take place after the conclusion of the group stage.[ 15] [ 16] [ 17] However, this decision was revoked in December 2016, with both teams being awarded one point each.[ 18]
