^ a b As Nacional defeated Defensor Sporting in the initial playoff and became champion, the final was not played, and Peñarol became the runner-up as the 2nd best team in the aggregate table. Both Nacional and Peñarol qualified for the 2013 Copa Libertadores group stage. Defensor Sporting appealed against the decision of the AUF that Peñarol is Uruguay 2 in the 2013 Copa Libertadores,[ 35] but was not accepted.
