Το καντόνι του Όμπβαλντεν (γερμανικά: Kanton Obwalden‎‎) είναι καντόνι της Ελβετίας. Βρίσκεται στο κέντρο της χώρας και πρωτεύουσά του είναι το Σάρνεν.

Ιστορία

Το Όμπβαλντεν είναι μια από τις δύο κοιλάδες, μαζί με το Νίντβαλντεν, που συναποτελούν το Ούντερβαλντεν. Σε όλη τη διάρκεια της ιστορίας του, η πολιτική κατάσταση και η έκταση της ανεξαρτησίας του ποικίλει. Μεταξύ 1291 και 1309, το Ούντερβαλντεν εντάχθηκε στη νεοσύστατη Ελβετική Συνομοσπονδία. Κατά τη διάρκεια αυτής της περιόδου, το Όμπβαλντεν ήταν γνωστό ως Unterwalden ob dem Kernwald και το Νίντβαλντεν ως Unterwalden nit dem Kernwald[2]. Οι ψήφοι του Ούντερβαλντεν στην Ομοσπονδιακή Συνέλευση χωρίζονταν μεταξύ των δύο κοιλάδων. Μεταξύ 1798 και 1803 αποτέλεσε την Περιφέρεια του Σάρνεν στο καντόνι του Βαλντστέτεν. Από το 1803 έως το 1999 ήταν το μισό καντόνι του Όμπβαλντεν. Το 1999, το νέο Ομοσπονδιακό Σύνταγμα εξάλειψε τον ορισμό του μισού καντονίου και έκανε το Όμπολντεν πλήρες καντόνι, αν και εξακολουθούν να εκπροσωπούνται στο Συμβούλιο των Κρατών με μισή ψήφο[3].

Διοίκηση

Landammann

Ο ανώτερος δικαστής (Landammann) είναι ο επικεφαλής του καντονιού. Από την 1η Ιουλίου 2023 στο αξίωμα υπηρετεί ο Γιόζεφ Χες.
