Circa

Το Circa, συνήθως συντομογραφείται c., ca. ή ca (επίσης circ. ή cca., ελληνική μετάφραση: περίπου), σημαίνει «προσεγγιστικά» σε πολλές ευρωπαϊκές γλώσσες, συνήθως όταν γίνεται αναφορά σε μια ημερομηνία.[1] Το circa χρησιμοποιείται ευρέως στην ιστορία, όταν οι ημερομηνίες των γεγονότων που δεν είναι με ακρίβεια γνωστές. Όταν χρησιμοποιείται σε χρονικά διαστήματα, το περίπου εφαρμόζεται πριν από κάθε κατά προσέγγιση ημερομηνία, ενώ οι ημερομηνίες χωρίς το περίπου αμέσως πριν από αυτά γενικά υποτίθεται ότι είναι γνωστά με βεβαιότητα.

Για παράδειγμα:

  • 1732-1799 ή 1732-99: τα δύο χρόνια είναι γνωστά με ακρίβεια.
  • c. 1732 – 1799: μόνο το έτος τέλους είναι γνωστό με ακρίβεια, το έτος αρχής είναι κατά προσέγγιση.
  • 1732 – c. 1799: μόνο το έτος αρχής είναι γνωστό με ακρίβεια, το έτος τέλους είναι κατά προσέγγιση.
  • c. 1732 – c. 1799: και τα δύο χρόνια είναι κατά προσέγγιση.
