Αριθμός Αβογκάντρο (ΝΑ) ονομάζεται ο αριθμός των ατόμων που περιέχονται σε 12 g του ισοτόπου 12C του άνθρακα. Η τιμή του αριθμού Αβογκάντρο, όπως προέκυψε από πολυάριθμες πειραματικές μετρήσεις, βρέθηκε ότι είναι NΑ = 6,022 141 79 · 1023 mol−1, δηλαδή περίπου 600 εξάκις εκατομμύρια.

  • Σε κάθε γραμμομόριο (mole) οποιασδήποτε καθαρής ουσίας περιέχονται ακριβώς ΝΑ μόρια.
  • Σε κάθε γραμμοάτομο (gr-at) οποιουδήποτε χημικού στοιχείου περιέχονται ακριβώς ΝΑ άτομα.
  • Σε κάθε γραμμοϊόν (gr-ion) περιέχονται ακριβώς ΝΑ ιόντα.

Συνεπώς ο αριθμός αυτός εκφράζει τον άριθμό μορίων, ατόμων ή ιόντων που περιέχονται αντίστοιχα στο γραμμομόριο, γραμμοάτομο ή γραμμοιόν.

Ο Αριθμός Αβογκάντρο πήρε το όνομά του προς τιμήν του Ιταλού χημικού Αμεντέο Αβογκάντρο.
