Οικογένεια Κληρίδη

Η οικογένεια Κληρίδη είναι οικογένεια πολιτικών, νομικών και άλλων επιστημών, μέλη της οποίας διακρίθηκαν στην κυπριακή κοινωνία. Σημαντικότερος εκπρόσωπός της θεωρείται ο Γλαύκος Κληρίδης.[1]

Ιστορικό

Γενάρχης της οικογένειας ήταν ο Χατζηχριστοφής (1800 μ.Χ.) που γεννήθηκε στον Αγρό.[1] Ο Χατζηχριστοφής είχε πολύ λεπτή φωνή, που έμοιαζε με τη φωνή του πουλιού κλήρος (κληρκός στην κυπριακή διάλεκτο).[1] Από το γεγονός αυτό προέκυψε το επίθετο Κληρίδης.[1] Ο Χατζηχριστοφής Κλήρος ή Κληρκός έφυγε σε νεαρή ηλικία από τον Αγρό και εργάστηκε ως εργάτης μιας οικογένειας γεωργών στην Αθηένου.[1] Μετά από περίπου 10 χρόνια επέστρεψε στον Αγρό, όπου και έκτισε το πρώτο σπίτι της οικογένειας.[1]
