Εθνοσυνελεύσεις στην Ελλάδα

Εθνοσυνελεύσεις ονομάζονταν στην Ελλάδα σώματα αντιπροσώπων που αντιπροσώπευαν το έθνος, λαμβάνοντας σημαντικές αποφάσεις. Στην αρχή του Ελληνικού κράτους, εθνοσυνελεύσεις ονομαζόταν όλα τα σώματα αντιπροσώπων, ενώ αργότερα, τα περισσότερα σώματα των εκλεγμένων αντιπροσώπων αναφέρονταν με το όνομα «Βουλή», με τη λέξη εθνοσυνέλευση ή «εθνική συνέλευση» να χαρακτηρίζει ορισμένα μόνο σώματα με ειδικό και σημαντικό ρόλο όπως την ψήφιση Συντάγματος.

Οι πρώτες εθνοσυνελεύσεις έγιναν από το 1821 έως το 1832 στα ένδεκα χρόνια που ακολούθησαν την ελληνική επανάσταση του 1821. Οι εθνοσυνελεύσεις που ακολούθησαν, το 1844, το 1920, το 1924 και το 1935 είχαν διαφοροποιημένο ρόλο από τη Βουλή λόγω του ότι καλούνταν να διαμορφώσουν και να εγκρίνουν σύνταγμα.

Οι εκλεγμένοι αντιπρόσωποι ονομάζονταν «πληρεξούσιοι», έχοντας λάβει την εξουσία να εκπροσωπήσουν τους πολίτες του τόπου τους. Κατέθεταν στην εθνοσυνέλευση τα έγγραφα με τις υπογραφές των συμπολιτών τους που έδειχναν ότι τους εκπροσωπούσαν και η συνέλευση τα ενέκρινε.
