Tony Herbert
Matthew Anthony „Tony“ Herbert (* 9. August 1920 in Castleconnell, County Limerick, Irland; † 6. März 2014 in Churchtown, Dublin) war ein irischer Hurler und Politiker der Fianna Fáil. Er war von Oktober 1977 bis Oktober 1981 und von Mai 1982 bis Februar 1983 Mitglied des Seanad Éireann, des Oberhauses des irischen Parlaments (Oireachtas).
Biografie
Herbert spielte in seiner Jugend bereits Gaelic Football und Hurling. Er gewann mit seinem Team der Auswahl von Limerick 1940 die gesamt irische Meisterschaft (All-Ireland Senior Championship). Er wechselte 1943 zum Dubliner Team. 1954 trat er als Spieler zurück. Schon ab 1952 war er als Trainer tätig. 1977 wurde er über die Arbeitsliste in den 14. Seanad Éireann gewählt, konnte seinen Sitz bei den Wahlen zum 15. Seanad jedoch nicht verteidigen. Zum 16. Seanad Éireann wurde er 1982 wiedergewählt. Danach trat er nicht mehr zu Wahlen an.
Sein Bruder Michael Herbert (1925–2006) war ebenfalls erfolgreicher Hurler und Politiker. Tony Herbert hatte mit seiner Frau Nancy drei Söhne und drei Töchter.[1]
