Sandra Binion
Sandra Binion (* 1949) ist eine US-amerikanische Künstlerin und aktiv auf den Gebieten der Performancekunst, der multimedialen Installation, Fotografie und Malerei.
Leben
Binion studierte am College-Conservatory of Music Cincinnati mit Abschluss als Bachelor im Fach Tanz und erhielt 1982 den Mastergrad als Filmemacherin am School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC). Ihre Werke wurden sowohl in den USA als auch in Europa gezeigt bzw. aufgeführt, u. a. in der Abbaye de Noirlac in Bruère-Allichamps, der Maison de George Sand in Nohant-Vic, im Centre d’art contemporain de la Matmut in Saint-Pierre-de Varengeville, im Kunstraum Stuttgart, der Galleria Passaggi Arte Contemporanea in Pisa, der Städtischen Kunsthochschule Kyoto, am Los Angeles Institute of Contemporary Art und der Schwedischen Botschaft in Washington, am Evanston Art Center, der Link’s Hall in Chicago, am Goodman Theatre und am Durand Art Institute des Lake Forest College.
Zentrale Werke ihres fast fünfzig Jahre umfassenden Schaffens sind u. a. Distillé, inspiriert von Gustave Flauberts Roman Madame Bovary, präsentiert als Fotosammlung und als Multimediainstallation, und in jüngerer Zeit RD, ein Multimediaprojekt mit Lou Mallozzi nach Nathaniel Hawthornes Erzählung Rappaccini’s Daughter. Gefördert wurde sie u. a. durch Stipendien des Goethe-Instituts (1984, 1990), des Illinois Arts Council (1980, 1987, 1989, 1999, 2003–05, 2007, 2014), der American Scandinavian Foundation (2007), der Pro Suecia Foundation (2007, 2009, 2010) und der Walter and Karla Goldschmidt Foundation (jährlich seit 2014). Performing Arts Chicago zeichnete sie 2004 und 2005 mit dem Excellence in Visual Exhibition Award (für watercloset(s) bzw. Mirage) aus.
