Reward Deficiency Syndrome

Als Reward Deficiency Syndrome (RDS) wird eine Störung bezeichnet, bei der das Belohnungssystem des Gehirns nicht ordnungsgemäß funktioniert.

Die Störung kann eine Ursache für Suchterkrankungen sein, bei welchen sich die Betroffenen die „Belohnung“ in einem unabweisbaren Verlangen durch externe Stimulanzien (z. B. Alkohol, Kokain, Opiate, Nikotin oder Cannabis) zuführen. Sie kann sich auch in einer genetisch veranlagten Anhedonie ausdrücken.[1]
