- Die erste Panay war ein ursprünglich spanisches Kanonenboot, welches 1899 in der Folge der amerikanischen Okkupation der Philippinen erworben worden war. Sie stand bis 1914 im Einsatz und wurde 1920 verkauft. Auf ihr versahen auch die späteren Zweite-Weltkriegs-Admiräle Chester W. Nimitz und John S. McCain senior ihren Dienst.
- Die zweite Panay (Schiff) war ein Flusskanonenboot, Stapellauf 1927, und wurde auf dem chinesischen Strom Jangtsekiang eingesetzt. Dabei wurde sie 1937 von japanischen Streitkräften im sogenannten Panay-Vorfall versenkt.
- Die dritte Panay war ein Hilfsschiff, welches ursprünglich unter dem Namen USS Midway (AG-41), eingesetzt wurde, aber 1943 in Panay umbenannt wurde, um den Namen Midway für einen Flugzeugträger verfügbar zu machen.
