New York Herald Waltz

New York Herald Waltz ist ein Walzer von Johann Strauss Sohn ohne Opus-Zahl. Das Werk wurde am 14. Oktober 1894 in der Academy of Music in New York City erstmals aufgeführt.

Anmerkungen

Das im Original nur aus 24 Takten bestehende Werk wurde im Jahr 1894 von Johann Strauss komponiert und der amerikanischen Zeitung New York Herald bzw. deren Verleger James Gordon Bennett (1841–1918) gewidmet. Das erklärt auch den Titelnamen. Die Erstaufführung erfolgte am 14. Oktober 1894 in der New Yorker Academy of Music. In Europa wurde das Werk lange nicht gespielt. Max Schönherr schuf schließlich ein neues Arrangement, das er am 21. April 1967 in der Wiener Hofburg aufführte. Diese Fassung ist auch auf der unten erwähnten CD-Einspielung zu hören.

Die Spieldauer beträgt auf der unter Einzelnachweisen angeführten CD 3 Minuten und 18 Sekunden. Je nach der musikalischen Auffassung des Dirigenten kann diese Zeit etwas variieren.[1]
