Mo i Rana [ˈmuː i ˈrɑːnɑ] (südsamisch: Måehvie) in der Kommune Rana in Norwegen ist eine Stadt am Ende des Ranfjords, der nur wenige Kilometer südlich des nördlichen Polarkreises liegt. Die Stadt hat 18.755 Einwohner (Stand: 1. Januar 2024).[1]

Wirtschaft

Mo i Rana ist geprägt von der Schwerindustrie und dem Hafen. Stahl-, Hütten- und Walzwerke sind seit über 100 Jahren die Haupterwerbsquellen der Einwohner.

Seit 1989 befindet sich in Mo i Rana der Zweitsitz der Norwegischen Nationalbibliothek,[2] deren Hauptsitz Oslo ist.

Verkehr

In Mo i Rana beginnt die Europastraße 12 als Abzweig der ebenfalls die Stadt passierenden Europastraße 6. Der Flughafen Mo i Rana, Røssvoll liegt rund zehn Kilometer nordöstlich der Stadt. Mo i Rana hat einen Bahnhof an der Nordlandsbane.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

Neben der Kirche aus dem 19. Jahrhundert mit ihrem kostbaren Altarbild aus dem frühen 18. Jahrhundert zählen sowohl das Stadtmuseum im Zentrum als auch das außerhalb der Stadt liegende Freilichtmuseum Stenneset zu den Sehenswürdigkeiten der Stadt.

Der Berg Mofjell bietet von seinem Gipfel einen Ausblick über die Stadt. Ein weiteres Ausflugsziel in der näheren Umgebung ist der Svartisen-Gletscher.

Das Røssvoll Motorstadion ist die älteste asphaltierte permanente Motorsport-Rennstrecke Norwegens.

Im Hafenbecken der Stadt befindet sich seit einigen Jahren die moderne Skulptur „Havmannen“ („Der Mann vom Meer“).
