Martin Bronfenbrenner
Martin Bronfenbrenner (* 2. Dezember 1914 in Pittsburgh; † 2. Juni 1997 in Durham/North Carolina) war ein US-amerikanischer Wirtschaftswissenschaftler und Hochschullehrer.[1]
Leben und Wirken
Martin Bronfenbrenner studierte Politikwissenschaft und Wirtschaftswissenschaft an der Washington University und erwarb dort 1934 den Bachelorgrad. Seine Promotion zum Ph.D. im Fach Wirtschaftswissenschaft erfolgte 1939 an der University of Chicago. Von 1937 bis 1940 war er als Assistenzprofessor an der University of Chicago tätig. Von 1940 bis 1941 arbeitete er beim Finanzministerium der Vereinigten Staaten und von 1941 bis 1943 als Statistiker bei der Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago (erneut 1946/47). Von 1943 bis 1946 nahm er als Angehöriger der U.S. Navy am Zweiten Weltkrieg teil. Sein Kriegsdienst führte ihn nach Japan, wo er die japanische Sprache erlernte und eine Japanerin heiratete. Von 1947 bis 1957 war er als außerordentlicher Professor an der University of Wisconsin tätig, 1957/58 an der Michigan State University, bis 1962 an der University of Minnesota und von 1962 bis 1971 an der Carnegie-Mellon University. Zuletzt lehrte er bis 1984 an der Duke University. Gastprofessuren führten ihn vor allem nach Japan. Er wirkte in mehreren Fachgesellschaften mit und war Mitglied der American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Er veröffentlichte über die gesamte Breite der Wirtschaftswissenschaft und beschäftigte sich außerdem mit der japanischen Wirtschaft.
Er ist verwandt mit dem Entwicklungspsychologen Urie Bronfenbrenner.
