Marche Funèbre ist eine 2008 gegründete Death-Doom-Metal-Band aus Mechelen, Belgien.

Bandgeschichte

Der Name der Band wurde vom gleichnamigen Stück des belgischen Funeral-Doom-Projektes Until Death Overtakes Me aus dessen Album Prelude to Monolith inspiriert.[1]

Erste Songs entstanden, nachdem sich 2008 eine erste Besetzung zusammenfand. Die Band spielte einige Konzerte und nahm auch eine erste EP mit dem Titel Norizon auf. Ein Jahr später folgte auch schon eine erste Tournee. Ende 2010 entstanden die Aufnahmen für das erste Album To Drown, welches am 1. Juni 2011 beim belgischen Underground-Metal-Label Shiver Records erschien.[1][2]

Sänger Arne Vandenhoeck war auch Mitglied der Pagan-Black-Metal Band Natan und lieh seine Stimme mehreren anderen Projekten, wie Astovidatu und Aberat Orbus. Davor spielte er bei Ecliptica, Gurthang und Herfst. Dennis Lefebvre war ab 1997 Mitglied der Band Self Inflicted.[1]

Stil

Marche Funèbre spielen melodischen Death-Doom-Metal. Die Texte drehen sich weitläufig um die Themen Literatur, Trauer und Philosophie Das Album Einderlicht aus dem Jahr 2020 handelt von Wünschen, sein Leben zu beenden.

„The whole album has the theme of suicide and wishes to end your life. In my opinion, it's not suicidal because we are not praising suicide. More of decribing it. If anyone should get crazy ideas about ending your life, get help.“

„Das gesamte Album dreht sich um das Thema Selbstmord und den Wunsch, seinem Leben ein Ende zu setzen. Meiner Meinung nach ist es nicht selbstmörderisch, da wir den Selbstmord nicht verherrlichen. Es geht vielmehr darum, ihn zu beschreiben. Sollte jemand auf die verrückte Idee kommen, sich das Leben zu nehmen, sollte er sich Hilfe suchen.“
