Lou Koller (* 15. Juli 1965 in New York; † 24. Juli 2026 in Matawan)[1] war ein US-amerikanischer Hardcore-Punk-Sänger. Er wurde vor allem als Frontmann der Band Sick of It All bekannt.

Leben

Lou Koller wurde am 15. Juli 1965 im New Yorker Stadtteil Queens geboren.[2] Er wuchs in einer Mittelklasse-Familie auf. Er hatte drei Brüder, von denen einer später ebenfalls ein Gründungsmitglied von Sick of It All war. Beide besuchten die Francis Lewis High School in Queens.[3][4][5]

Lou und Pete Koller hoben Sick Of It All 1986 aus der Taufe. Nach ersten Startschwierigkeiten und einem häufig wechselnden Line-up wurde die Band zu einem der wichtigsten und einflussreichsten Vertreter des New York Hardcore. Insbesondere ihr Album Scratch the Surface gilt als eines der besten Alben des Genres und machte die Band international bekannt.[6] Koller selbst wurde einer der einflussreichsten Sänger des Genres.[5]

Neben Sick of It All hatte Koller ein Projekt mit Shane Embury von Napalm Death unter dem Bandnamen Blood from the Soul. Das Debüt To Spite the Gland That Breeds erschien 1993 bei Earache Records.[7]

Insgesamt veröffentlichten Sick of It All zwischen 1989 und 2018 12 Studioalben. Die fulminante Karriere kulminierte 2021 in der Autobiografie The Blood and Sweat: The Story of Sick of It All’s Koller Brothers, die die beiden Brüder zusammen verfassten.[8]

2024 musste die Tour von Sick of It All abgesagt werden, nachdem Koller eine Tumorerkrankung öffentlich gemacht hatte. Er litt unter Speiseröhrenkrebs. Nachdem eine erste Therapie erfolgreich verlaufen war, galt er im Mai 2025 als krebsfrei. Ende September gab Koller bekannt, dass der Krebs zurück war.[9] Eine weitere Therapie schlug nicht an. Koller verstarb am 24. Juli 2026 im Alter von 61 Jahren.[10][11]
