Liste der Fluggeschwindigkeitsrekorde

Der absolute Fluggeschwindigkeitsrekord ist die höchste Fluggeschwindigkeit, die durch ein Flugzeug ohne bestimmte Klasse erreicht wird. Die Regeln aller offiziellen Fluggeschwindigkeitsrekorde werden von der Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) festgelegt.[1]

Der von der FAI anerkannte absolute Fluggeschwindigkeitsweltrekord ist an eine genau definierte 16,25 km lange Strecke gebunden, die in 12.000 m Höhe in beiden Richtungen durchflogen werden muss. Über andere Distanzen erzielte Geschwindigkeitsrekorde (andere Klassen) werden in der Regel als internationale Rekorde bezeichnet.

Klassen

Nicht absolute Geschwindigkeitsrekorde sind in mehrere Klassen und Unterklassen unterteilt. Es gibt drei Klassen von Flugzeugen: Landflugzeuge, Wasserflugzeuge und Amphibienflugzeuge. Innerhalb dieser Klassen gibt es noch Aufteilungen für verschiedene Gewichtsklassen sowie weitere Unterteilungen für Kolbenmotor-, Strahl-, Turboprop- und Raketenflugzeuge. Gemessen wird entweder eine bestimmte Strecke, ein Rundkurs unterschiedlicher Länge und Zuladung oder auch zwischen bestimmten Städten wie beispielsweise New York und London.
