Karl Borchard
Karl Borchard (* 8. Dezember 1937 in Duderstadt) ist ein deutscher Diplomat im Ruhestand.
Werdegang
Borchard studierte Volkswirtschaftslehre in Freiburg im Breisgau, Kiel und Göttingen. 1966 wurde er an der Georg-August-Universität Göttingen zum Dr. rer. pol. promoviert.
1966 trat Borchard in den Auswärtigen Dienst ein. Von 1981 bis 1985 war er erstmals an der Ständigen Vertretung der Bundesrepublik Deutschland bei den Vereinten Nationen in New York tätig. Anschließend war er bis 1986 Leiter des Referats „Internationale Umweltpolitik“ und von 1986 bis 1988 Leiter des Referats „Außenpolitische Grundsätze der Entwicklungspolitik, Grundsätze der finanziellen Zusammenarbeit, Entwicklungspolitik der Europäischen Gemeinschaften; Multilaterale Entwicklungsbanken (Weltbank); DEG“ in der Zentrale des Auswärtigen Amts in Bonn. Von 1988 bis 1993 war er erneut an der Ständigen Vertretung bei den Vereinten Nationen in New York City tätig, dieses Mal als Gesandter. Schließlich war er von 1994 bis zu seiner Pensionierung 2002 Ständiger Vertreter Deutschlands bei den Vereinten Nationen in Wien.
