John Robb

John David Alexander Robb (* 24. Februar 1932 in Downpatrick, County Down, Nordirland; † 13. Februar 2018) war ein irischer Chirurg und Politiker. Er war von Mai 1982 bis November 1989 Mitglied des Seanad Éireann, des Oberhauses des irischen Parlaments (Oireachtas).

Leben

Robb stammt aus einem liberalen protestantischen Elternhaus.[1] Er studierte an der Queen’s University Belfast und spezialisierte sich später auf Chirurgie. In den 1960er Jahren wurde er Mitglied der Wolf Tone Society. Ab den 1970er Jahren arbeitete er am Victoria Hospital in Belfast als Unfallchirurg.[2] 1982 gründete er die New Ireland Group, die sich für ein modernes Irland im Ausgleich republikanischer und unionistischer Interessen einsetzte. 1982 wurde er von Taoiseach Garret FitzGerald in den irischen Seanad nominiert und behielt den Sitz, nachdem ihn auch Charles Haughey nominiert hatte, bis 1987 im Seanad.[3]
