Hazel Meyers
Hazel Meyers war eine amerikanische Bluessängerin.
Meyers, eine afroamerikanische Varietékünstlerin der 1920er Jahre, nahm zwischen September 1923 und August 1924 in New York City insgesamt 41 Titel auf, hauptsächlich für Ajax, aber auch für Brunswick (veröffentlicht auf Vocalion), Pathé, Banner, Bell und Emerson. Ihre letzten Aufnahmen spielte sie im Juni 1926 in Chicago für Okeh Records ein. Sie arbeitete häufig mit herausragenden Begleitmusikern, wie Fletcher Henderson, Porter Grainger, Bubber Miley, Don Redman und Fats Waller („Maybe Someday“ and „When Your Troubles Are Just Like Mine“).[1] Nicht gesichert ist, dass sie weitere Aufnahmen unter dem Pseudonym Mae Harris für Domino und Louella Smith für Oriole Records machte.[2]
Über ihre Bühnenkarriere ist nur wenig bekannt: Sie trat in Steppin’ High from Dixie auf, einer Varieté-Show, die ab September 1924 durch die Vereinigten Staaten tourte und von Fletcher Hendersons Orchester begleitet wurde. Gelegentliche Auftritte von Meyers sind bis 1930 im Vaudeville dokumentiert. Über ihr weiteres Leben ist nichts bekannt.[1]
Meyers gesammelte Aufnahmen wurden 1996 von Document Records wiederveröffentlicht.[3][4]
