Grimmelfingen ist ein am 1. April 1926 nach Ulm eingemeindetes Dorf am Südrand des Hochsträß. Es liegt etwa fünf Kilometer südwestlich der Altstadt von Ulm. Die gleichnamige Gemarkung hat eine Fläche von 2,85 km² und zählt 1.167 Einwohner (31. Dezember 2023).^[1] Das Dorf ist ehemals agrarisch. Heute leben in der Gemeinde weitgehend Arbeitnehmer der umliegenden Industriebetriebe.

Am Rande des Ortes wurden lange Zeit die Grimmelfinger Graupensande gewerblich abgebaut und in der Baubranche verarbeitet.

Kultur und Sehenswürdigkeiten

Die evangelische Jakobuskirche prägt das Ortsbild.

Durch das Dorf führt der Oberschwäbische Jakobsweg von Ulm nach Konstanz.

1910 verlegte das Musiklabel Beka 23 Volksmusik-Lieder der „Grimmelfinger Baure-Kapell“ auf Grammophonplatten.^[2]
