Gikonko (Kinyarwanda Umurenge wa Gikonko) ist einer von 13 Sektoren des Distrikts Gisagara in der Südprovinz von Ruanda.

Geographie

Der Sektor Gikonko hat eine Fläche von 49,5 km². Er setzt sich aus den vier Zellen Cyiri, Gasagara, Gikonko und Mboga zusammen. Nachbarsektoren sind im Norden Ntyazo, im Osten Mamba, im Süden Musha und im Westen Rusatria.[1][2][3]

Bevölkerung

Nach Stand der Volkszählung von 2022 liegt die Einwohnerzahl bei 28.772. Zehn Jahre zuvor waren es 23.098, was einem jährlichen Bevölkerungszuwachs von 2,2 Prozent zwischen 2012 und 2022 entspricht.[4][5][1]

Verkehr

Durch den Sektor führt etwa in Nord-Süd-Richtung die Nationalstraße 8. Von dieser gehen zwei District Roads nach Südwesten bzw. Nordosten ab.[6][3]
