Georges Baraka

Georges Baraka (arabisch جرجس بركة, DMG Ǧirǧis Baraka; * 10. Mai 1888 in Tahta; † 9. Dezember 1946) war ein ägyptischer koptisch-katholischer Geistlicher und Bischof von Minya.

Leben

Georges Baraka studierte ab 1903 Philosophie und Katholische Theologie am Priesterseminar in Tahta. Er empfing am 25. Juni 1911 durch den Bischof von Luxor, Ignazio Gladès Berzi, das Sakrament der Priesterweihe für die Eparchie Minya. Nach der Priesterweihe war er zunächst als Pfarrvikar in Abu Qurqas tätig, bevor er 1919 Pfarrer in al-Minya wurde.[1] Ab 1926 wirkte er als Generalvikar der Eparchie Minya.[2]

Am 8. Juli 1938 ernannte ihn Papst Pius XI. zum Bischof von Minya. Der koptisch-katholische Bischof von Luxor, Markos Khouzam, spendete ihm am 16. Oktober desselben Jahres die Bischofsweihe; Mitkonsekratoren waren der Apostolische Vikar des Nildeltas, Jules Girard SMA, und der Apostolische Vikar des Sueskanals, Ange-Marie-Paul Hiral OFM.

Baraka starb im Dezember 1946 im Alter von 58 Jahren und wurde in der Kathedrale Christkönig in al-Minya beigesetzt.[1]
