Dom Martin

Dom Martin (* um 1990 in Antrim, Nordirland als Dominic Martin Savage)[1] ist ein nordirischer Blues- und Bluesrockmusiker (Gitarre, Gesang) und Songwriter.

Leben und Wirken

Dom Martin tritt sowohl solo mit Akustikgitarre als auch mit E-Gitarre und seinem Powertrio auf. Sein Vorbild ist vor allem Rory Gallagher, mit dem er häufig verglichen wird.[2][3]

Martin wuchs in Antrim[1] als mittleres von fünf Kindern in schwierigen Verhältnissen auf. Sein Vater Micky Savage, ein Musiker, brachte ihm bereits in jungen Jahren das Gitarrespielen bei. Martin trat zunächst in Pubs und Bars auf und lebte ärmlich; aus dieser frühen Zeit hat er einen Sohn. 2017 nahm ihn Red Pepper Promotions von Fenton und Audrey Parsons unter Vertrag, wodurch seine Karriere Auftrieb bekam.[2][3]

2018 wurde er in die BBC 2 Blues Show eingeladen, um live zu spielen. 2019 erschien sein Debütalbum Spain to Italy, gefolgt 2022 von A Savage Life. 2023 nahm er an Joe Bonamassas KTBA Mediterranian Cruise III teil. Das nächste Album Buried in the Hail (2024) erhielt einen UK Blues Award in der Kategorie Blues Album of the Year; Martin selbst wurde ab 2020 mehrfach mit UK Blues Awards ausgezeichnet.[4]
