Devils Whorehouse war eine schwedische Horrorpunk-Band mit starken Metal-Einflüssen. Sie existierte von 2000 bis 2011 und benannte sich dann in Death Wolf um.

Bandgeschichte

Devils Whorehouse wurde als Sideprojekt der beiden Marduk-Mitglieder Morgan Steinmeyer Håkansson (Gitarre) und Roger „B. War“ Svensson (Bass) gegründet. Zum ersten Line-up gehörten außerdem Sänger Christoffer „Zwedda“ Svedbo und Schlagzeuger Mikael „Hrafn“ Karlsson. Ursprünglich handelte es sich um eine Misfits- und Samhain-Coverband. Der Name ist einem Song aus der Misfits-Ära mit Glenn Danzig entlehnt.[1]

2000 erschien die erste EP The Howling über Blooddawn Productions/Regain Records, die zur Hälfte aus je zwei Misfits- und zwei Samhain- und zur anderen Hälfte aus eigenen Songs bestand. Die Band war außerdem auf dem This Is Horrorpunk-Sampler von Fiendforce Records (2003) vertreten. 2004 erschien das Debütalbum Revelation Unorthodox.[2]

B. War stieg 2004 aus. Im Anschluss übernahm Håkansson auch den Bass, bis 2008 mit Makkoein neuer Gitarrist gefunden wurde. Ab 2008 übernahm mit Valentin Mellström auch ein neuer Sänger. Gemeinsam erschien 2008 die EP Werewolf und am 22. Mai 2009 das Album Blood & Ashes.[3]

2011 änderte die Band ihren Namen in Death Wolf und damit auch die musikalische Ausrichtung, die sich von den Misfits endgültig entfernte.[4][5]

Musikstil

Musikalisch waren die ersten Werke stark an die Danzig-Jahre von den Misfits und Samhain angelehnt, wobei manchen Rezensenten die Black-Metal-Einflüsse zu groß waren.[2] Das zweite Album erinnerte eher an die Musik der Band Danzig.[3]
