Charles-Jean Seghers
Charles-Jean Seghers, auch Charles John Seghers (* 26. Dezember 1839 in Gent, Belgien; † 28. November 1886 in Nulato, Alaska) war ein belgischer Geistlicher und römisch-katholischer Bischof von Vancouver Island.
Leben
Charles-Jean Seghers empfing am 31. Mai 1863 in Mechelen durch den Erzbischof von Mecheln, Engelbert Kardinal Sterckx, das Sakrament der Priesterweihe für das Bistum Vancouver Island.
Am 11. März 1873 wurde er zum Bischof von Vancouver Island ernannt. Die Bischofsweihe spendete ihm am 29. Juni desselben Jahres in Victoria der Erzbischof von Oregon City, François Norbert Blanchet; Mitkonsekratoren waren der Bischof von Nesqually, Augustin Magloire Alexandre Blanchet, und der Apostolische Vikar von British Columbia, Louis-Joseph D’Herbomez OMI.
Charles-Jean Seghers blieb Bischof von Vancouver Island bis zum 23. Juli 1878, als er zum Titularbischof von Canea und Koadjutorbischof von Oregon City ernannt wurde. Am 28. September 1878 folgte die Ernennung zum Titularerzbischof von Hemesa.
Mit der Emeritierung von François Norbert Blanchet am 12. Dezember 1880 folgte Charles-Jean Seghers ihm als Erzbischof von Oregon City nach. Er bekleidete das Amt bis zum 6. März 1884, als er erneut zum Bischof von Vancouver Island ernannt wurde.
