C. L. Polk

Chelsea L. Polk ist eine kanadische Autorin romantischer Fantasy. Ihr erster Roman Witchmark war 2018 für den Nebula Award und den Lambda Award als bester Roman und für den Locus Award als bestes Romandebüt nominiert.

Polk begann als Autorin mit Kurzgeschichten, die sie in ihrem Blog veröffentlichte. Dann beteiligte sie sich mit mehreren Episoden an der erfolgreichen Science-Fiction-Webserie Shadow Unit.[1]

2018 erschien dann ihr erster Roman Witchmark, zugleich erster Band des Kingston Cycle. Ein zweiter Band Greystar ist für 2020 angekündigt. Hauptfigur ist Miles Singer, der aus dem Krieg zurückgekehrt als Arzt in einem Hospital für Veteranen arbeitet. Er verbirgt sein magisches Talent, da er sonst riskiert, als Hexer interniert zu werden oder – noch schlimmer – zum Werkzeug seiner mächtigen Schwester für ihre und die Interessen seiner Familie zu werden. Die Welt gemahnt an ein England der nachviktorianischen Ära – in dem freilich Magie funktioniert – und der Krieg, der die daran beteiligten Soldaten sowohl physisch als auch psychisch zerstört und verkrüppelt, an die Katastrophe des Ersten Weltkriegs. Der Roman wurde 2019 mit dem World Fantasy Award ausgezeichnet. Den Hugo Award und den Nebula Award gewann sie 2023 mit dem Roman Even Though I Knew the End[2][3]

Polk lebt in Süd-Alberta.
