Brandon Christensen
Brandon Christensen (* in Calgary, Alberta, Kanada) ist ein kanadischer Regisseur, Drehbuchautor und Produzent. Er arbeitet zudem als Editor und im Bereich visuelle Effekte.
Leben
Brandon Christensen wuchs in Calgary (Alberta) auf und entwickelte früh eine Begeisterung für Horrorfilme.[1] Nach einer Ausbildung/Studium im Filmbereich in Toronto arbeitete er zunächst in den USA und baute seine berufliche Laufbahn – ausgehend von Musikvideos und Werbefilmen – vor allem von Las Vegas (Nevada) aus auf.[1][2] Nach eigenen Angaben lebte er rund 15 Jahre in den USA und zog 2022 mit seiner Familie wieder nach Kanada zurück.[1]
Seine Stoffe entwickelt Christensen häufig aus persönlichen Erfahrungen: Das Debüt Still/Born (2017) entstand aus Ängsten rund um Elternschaft und postpartale Belastungen; Z (2019) greift familiäre Alltagsängste rund um die Fantasie- und Erfahrungswelt eines Kindes auf.[1] Superhost (2021) wiederum wurde von einer nach eigenen Worten „unangenehm-intimen“ Begegnung mit einem Gastgeber während eines Aufenthalts in einer Ferienwohnung inspiriert und verbindet das Setting mit einer Satire auf Influencer-Kultur.[1]
Auszeichnungen (Auswahl)
Für den Horrorfilm Z erhielt Christensen beim Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival 2019 Auszeichnungen (u. a. als bester Film und beste Regie).[3] Still/Born wurde beim Overlook Film Festival (Jury-Preis „Scariest Film“) ausgezeichnet.[4] Beim Calgary International Film Festival gewann The Puppetman 2023 den Audience Choice Award in der Kategorie „Late Shift“.[5]
