Badal Ghosh

Badal Ghosh (bengalisch বাদল ঘোষ, Urdu بدل گھوش, geb. ca. 1925) war ein pakistanischer, später bangladeschischer Geschäftsmann und Unterstützer von Scheich Mujibur Rahman.[1]

Leben

Ghosh wurde 1925 in Baghdad geboren.[2][3] Sein Vater, S. M. Ghosh, war ein bengalischer Hindu und seine Mutter eine irakische Christin aus Baghdad. Sie trennten sich nachdem die Familie nach Wari Thana (ওয়ারী), Old Dhaka (পুরান ঢাকা, Purān Ḍhākā), zurückgekehrt war.[4][2] Er und seine Brüder wurden von ihrer Mutter als Christen erzogen.[4][2] Er hat zwei Brüder, Robin Ghosh, ein Musik-Direktor und Ashoke Ghosh, ein Filmemacher.[3][5]

Ausbildung

Er erwarb einen Bachelor in Commerce an der University of Dhaka.[2]

Karriere

Ghosh gehörte das Unternehmen Ajax Power Industries, welches er in den 1950ern gegründet hatte.[6] Er importierte Landmaschinen.[2] Der Firmensitz befand sich in der Jinnah Avenue in Dhaka.[7] Eine weitere Tochtergesellschaft, Ajax Jute Mills, wurde 2014 geschlossen.[8] Der jetzige Eigentümer, Mohammad Kawsar Zaman Babla, behauptete, das Unternehmen sei aufgrund seiner Verbindung zur Bangladesh Nationalist Party von Politikern der Awami-Liga besetzt worden.[8]

Überwachung

Der pakistanische Geheimdienst Special Branch sammelte in den 1960er Jahren Informationen zu Ghosh um seine Verbindungen zur Awami-Liga aufzudecken. Es wurde vermutet, dass er die von Scheich Mujibur Rahman geführte Bewegung finanzierte.[1]

Tod

Ghosh starb in Singapur.[9]
