Mužská dvouhra MercedesCupu 2018 probíhala v první polovině června 2018. Do singlové soutěže stuttgartského tenisového turnaje hraného na trávě nastoupilo dvacet osm hráčů. Obhájcem titulu byl francouzský tenista Lucas Pouille, kterého v semifinále vyřadil Raonic.

Vítězem se stal druhý hráč světa a nejvýše nasazený Švýcar Roger Federer, jenž ve finále zdolal kanadskou turnajovou sedmičku Milose Raonice po dvousetovém průběhu 6–4 a 7–6. Poměr vzájemných zápasů navýšil na 11–3. V probíhající sezóně si tak připsal po triumfech na Australian Open a Rotterdam Open třetí turnajové vítězství, které představovalo 98. singlový titul na okruhu ATP Tour při 147 odehraných finále. Navýšil i rekordní zápis osmnácti titulů na trávě.[1]

Již postupem do finále si Federer zajistil pátý návrat na pozici světové jedničky, na níž do té doby strávil rekordních 309 týdnů kariéry a kde vystřídal Rafaela Nadala. Poprvé čelu klasifikace vévodil již v únoru 2004. Ve věku 36 let a 10 měsíců a 9 dní se 18. června 2018 stal historicky nejstarším mužem na této pozici.[2] Zároveň byl i nejstarším hráčem v první světové stovce, když z ní vypadl Karlović. Překonal tak věkový rekord tehdy 33letého Andreho Agassiho, který v roce 2003 figuroval na čele klasifikace a také představoval nejstaršího muže v Top 100.[3]
