Ranavalona II (1829, Ambatomanoina, Madagascar - 13 de juliol de 1883, Antananarivo, Madagascar) fou reina de Madagascar (1868 - 1883).

Biografia

En el tron va succeir a la seva cosina germana Rasoherina, vídua del rei Radama II (cosí germà d'ambdues, i que va ser també el primer espòs de Ranavalona II). Es va casar amb Rainivoninahitriniony, primer ministre (qui també va ser espòs de les reines Rasoherina i Ranavalona III), i fou batejada el 21 de febrer de 1869, convertida al cristianisme. El seu regnat va començar el 2 d'abril de 1868 i va ser coronada el 3 de setembre del mateix any. També se la va conèixer en aquest període com Ranavalo-Manjaka 'II. El seu regnat es va caracteritzar per la ràpida occidentalizació de l'illa, la cooperació de missioners britànics, el creixement econòmic, la construcció d'escoles i l'inici de la primera codificació de la llei, però també per l'aparició de conflictes pel poder colonial de França, que van dur a terme la primera expedició de Madagascar que acabaria duent al Protectorat de Madagascar en 1882.

Com a consort del rei Radama II (també el seu cosí germà), el seu nom va ser Ramoma.

Ranavalona II va ser succeïda per Ranavalona III, última monarca del país.[1]
