Starogrčki jezik obuhvata oblike grčkog jezika, koji se koristio u antičkoj Grčkoj i drevnom svijetu iz cijelog perioda od 9. stoljeća p.n.e. do 6. stoljeća nove ere. Često se grubo dijeli u:

Jezik helenističke faze je poznat kao Koine (zajednički). Koine se smatrao na kao njegova posebna historijski faza, iako je u svom najranijem obliku jako ličio na atički grčki i na svoj najnoviji oblik koji se približava srednjevjekovnom grčkom. Prije Koine perioda, grčki jezik klasičnih i ranijih razdoblja uključuje nekoliko regionalnih dijalekata.

Starogrčki je jezik su promovirali Homer i klasični atenski historičari, dramskih pisci, starogrčki filozofi. To je doprinijelo pojavi mnogo riječi na germanskom i latinskom, a zatim i slavenskom rječniku i bio je standardni predmet studija u obrazovnim institucijama zapadnog svijeta od renesanse. U historiji Srednjevjekovne Bosne i današnje Bosne i Hercegovine, logično je što se i u suvremenom bosanskom jeziku javlja mnoštvo tuđica grčkog porijekla (grekizama). To se osobito odnosi na komunikacije u prirodnim i društvenim naukama, a nisu rijetke ni u svakodnevnom govoru.
