El radar[1] (términu que remanez del acrónimu inglés Radio Detection And Ranging, “deteición y midida de distancies per radio”) ye un sistema qu'usa ondes electromagnétiques pa midir distancies, altitúes, direiciones y velocidaes d'oxetos estáticos o móviles como aeronaves, barcos, vehículos motorizaos, formaciones meteorolóxiques y el propiu tarrén. El so funcionamientu básase n'emitir un impulsu de radio, que se reflexa nel oxetivu y recíbese típicamente na mesma posición del emisor.

A partir d'esti "ecu" puede estrayese gran cantidá d'información. L'usu d'ondes electromagnétiques dexa detectar oxetos más allá del rangu d'otru tipu d'emisiones (lluz visible, soníu, etc.)
