José del Rosario Miranda foi vicepresidente del Paraguái ente 1886 y 1890. Nació en 1832 en Caraguatay, ciudá que tamién dio al país a trés presidentes de la República: Escurra, González Navero y Estigarribia. Ingresó en files del exércitu y actuó na Guerra de la Triple Alianza. Na posguerra foi unu de los protagonistes de la reconstrucción nacional. Electu convencional, presidió la magna asamblea y, darréu, integró y presidió el Poder Xudicial.

Ocupó cargos ministeriales nel gobiernu del presidente Xovellanos (Guerra y Marina, Rellaciones Esteriores, Xusticia, Cultu ya Instrucción Pública); tamién actuó na diplomacia pal arreglu definitivu de trataos de paz, amistá, comerciu, navegación y llendes cola Arxentina y como representante ante la Santa Sede. Como tal cupió-y solucionar l'entredichu ente'l Paraguái y la Santa Sede, a consecuencia del fusilamiento del obispo Palacios, mientres la Guerra de la Triple Alianza. Ocupó escaños nel Parllamentu y presidió la Cámara de Diputaos.

Electu vicepresidente de la República pol periodu 1886-1890, secundó'l llabor del presidente Patricio Escobar. Darréu foi senador nacional. Retiráu al so pueblu natal, finó'l 28 de mayu de 1903.
