La escala temporal xeolóxica, escala de tiempu xeolóxico o tabla cronoestratigráfica internacional ye'l marcu de referencia pa representar los eventos de la historia de la Tierra y de la vida ordenaos cronolóxicamente. Afita divisiones y subdivisiones de les roques según la so edá relativa y del tiempu absolutu trescurríu dende la formación de la Tierra hasta l'actualidá, nuna doble dimensión: estratigráfica y cronolóxica. Estes divisiones tán basaes principalmente nos cambeos faunísticos observables nel rexistru fósil y pudieron datase por métodos radiométricos. La escala resume y xunifica los resultaos del trabayu sobre xeoloxía histórica fechu mientres dellos sieglos por naturalistes, xeólogos, paleontólogos y otros munchos especialistes. Dende 1974 la ellaboración formal de la escala ta fecha pola Comisión Internacional d'Estratigrafía de la Xunión Internacional de Ciencies Xeolóxiques y los cambeos, tres dellos años d'estudios y deliberaciones por subcomisiones específiques, han de ser ratificaos en congresos mundiales.[1]
